A vital acclimatization day.

Climb slowly across the alpine desert toward Lava Tower, where lunch is served at high altitude (4’630m/15’190ft)

After spending time at 4,630 meters, descend to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy allows the body to acclimatize effectively.

  • Distance: 10 km/6mi

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

After breakfast, tackle the spectacular Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting sections of the route. Though steep, it is a non-technical scramble guided carefully by the mountain crew.

Continue through scenic ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp.

This is a shorter day intended for gradual altitude adaptation.

The trail becomes steeper and more barren as you move into Kilimanjaro’s harsh alpine zone (4680m/15’354ft).

Arrive by early afternoon. After lunch, guides conduct summit briefing and health assessment.
